The third city on the Summer by Rail journey is Providence, Rhode Island. Chef Madi will take Amtrak’s Acela Express train service, which travels up to 150 MPH, to Providence Station. The station also serves Amtrak’s Northeast Regional and the MBTA Commuter Rail, seeing nearly 750,000 passenger boardings a year. This makes the Providence Station the 11th busiest Amtrak station in the country.
While in Providence, Chef Madi will be able to taste some of the best foods in the country – especially some of the best Italian thanks to the city’s mob-related history. In 2012, the readers of Travel and Leisure named Providence the #1 food city in the U.S. in the magazine’s annual readers’ poll. And most recently, Thrillist named Providence the best food city in Rhode Island.
