Unfortunately, Chef Madi will not be taking Amtrak to Phoenix. Why? Because Phoenix does not have Amtrak service. In 1996 Amtrak withdrew from Phoenix’s Union Station due to poor track conditions on a secondary Union Pacific Railroad line. As a result, Phoenix is the largest city without inter-city passenger rail in the U.S.
To get to Phoenix, Chef Madi will be taking an Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach Service from Flagstaff – a little more than two hours driving.
Nevertheless, Chef Madi will be able to take in the booming food scene of Phoenix. The city’s chefs have been working hard over the past several years to spruce of the culinary tastes. There has been so much growth within Phoenix, that in 2017, The Guardian (yes, the UK-based outlet) wrote that “Phoenix is being reborn as a foodie oasis in the Arizona desert.”
