Jumping back on the Crescent, Chef Madi will make her way to Meridian, MS. Chef Madi will depart the train at Meridian’s Union Station, which is also known as the Meridian Multi-Modal Transportation Center. It sees nearly 9,500 Amtrak passengers a year, but the station also serves passengers for Greyhound and Meridian Transit System buses. In the few years it has been open, the station serves an average of 242,360 per year.
While in Meridian, Chef Madi will meet with former Meridian mayor John Robert Smith. Smith is a major player in passenger rail and public transit advocacy, having served as Chairman of the Board of the Amtrak Board of Directors, acted as the President and CEO of the non-profit transit research and advocacy think-tank Reconnecting America, and as a senior policy adviser at Smart Growth America. Today, Smith serves as the Chairman of Transportation for America.
