Greg Guimond is a city planner from Boston who travels frequently by train and, as it turns out, is a fellow RPA member as well. As we talked, he mentioned the many lines he’s traveled on and the efforts he’s been a part of to improve rail transit around the Boston area.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THE TRAIN?
I wanted to do a roundtrip to see how the Brightline service was.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT TRAVELLING BY TRAIN?
I prefer to ride the train, that way I get to see the scenery. You don’t have to wait in line and have TSA hassle you I don’t mind the time because I prefer to have a nice train ride.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE LOCATION THAT YOU’VE TRAVELED TO BY TRAIN?
Los Angeles, I love that station. Washington DC has a great station as well.
HOW DO YOU THINK TRAIN TRAVEL CAN BE USEFUL FOR EVERYDAY COMMUTERS? FOR PEOPLE LOOKING TO TRAVEL?
For the commuters I think it makes more sense because there’s less wear and tear on the car. For long distance I just prefer it because you can get from city to city right in downtown
WHAT DO YOU THINK CAN BE IMPROVED IN RAIL TRAVEL?
I think they need better windows on the Amtrak trains, especially on the “Amcans.” When they come out with new ones they need better ones
