BALLPARK

Impact Field, Rosemont, IL

FINAL SCORE

Dogs 9, Air Hogs 2

Home teams are now 6-6 (with 1 rainout) at my games.

HOW I GOT THERE

Arrived via the Metra Antioch line (coming from Chicago Union Station). Returned to my hotel on the CTA blue line, with a short rideshare at the end.

WHERE I SAT

Directly behind home plate! Section 110, Row 11.

WHAT I ATE

Chicago-style hot dog, of course! NO KETCHUP! I also had some popcorn

You can’t see the Chicago Dogs without eating a Chicago Dog.

MEMORABLE GAME MOMENTS

The game was more error-prone than most. Maybe it’s because this is an independent league team, or maybe it’s because the AirHogs are serving as a training team for the Chinese National team. They even played the Chinese National Anthem before the game!

Mustard & Me

The team mascot is “Squeeze,” a mustard mascot; his archenemy is Ketchup.

The team invited me onto the field after the second inning to play a plinko-style game where I won a gift certificate to the team store.

Most memorable, though, were the young fans behind us. They were coordinating chants during the game, and were even good about knowing when to chant and when not to. Video here.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BALLPARK

It’s a small, intimate park, with good views and nice amenities. It’s just a two-block walk from the Metra Antioch line, and there’s a shuttle bus that takes people to a nearby CTA blue line stop. Rosemont has turned the area into a mini entertainment district, with restaurants, a bowling alley, etc., and the shuttle bus stops at these as well.

WHAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

Nothing they can do about this, but the ball park is very close to O’Hare International Airport, so the sound of planes taking off overhead can be pretty overwhelming at times.
