Bill McCullum rode Amtrak for the first time today, taking the Hoosier State line from Dyer, Indiana, where he grew up, to Milwaukee via a brief layover in Chicago Union Station. He talked to me about his recent travels in the Midwest (including taking the train to a blues festival in Gary) and how he enjoyed the experience.
WHERE ARE YOU RIDING TO?
Milwaukee. I’m going to see old friends I went to college with there at Marquette.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THE TRAIN?
I live in Florida and I usually drive but I thought this time I’ll take an adventure and so I took the train
DID YOU LIKE THE EXPERIENCE?
It was great, they have the internet right there. I didn’t know what to expect it’s a lot more comfortable than flying that’s for sure.
ARE YOU PLANNING ON RIDING THE TRAIN AGAIN?
Yeah, in fact my wife and I are planning a trip across Canada doing the train thing. It’s much more convenient and less hassle than the airports.
ARE YOU LIKELY TO RECOMMEND TAKING THE TRAIN TO OTHER PEOPLE?
Highly. It’s just so much easier and cheaper a lot less hassle.
